Tommy Boynton

Tommy Boynton presents an evening of song cycles, bringing poetry to life through his original musical adaptations. The evening will feature works by Carl Sandburg, Sarah Teasdale, William Blake, and others, reimagined through a musically imaginative lens. Drawing from a wide range of genres, Boynton’s approach resists confining the power of words to any single style, instead creating a sound world that will resonate with fans of Joni Mitchell, José González, Bill Evans, Frank Ocean, and Robert Schumann.

Tommy Boynton is a jazz singer, composer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist residing in St. Paul, Minnesota. As an artist and educator, he is grateful for the paths that have allowed him to stay actively creative and exploring while seeking to welcome all in experiencing and enjoying music free of judgment and shame. Tommy is a current member of The Four Freshmen, a jazz vocal group founded in 1948 that has been touring continuously for over 78 years. He joined the band in 2015, singing lead and top harmony while playing bass, and in 2020 transitioned to singing second harmony and playing guitar. With The Four Freshmen, Tommy has performed at some of the worlds premiere establishments including the Cotton Club in Tokyo, the Blue Note in Beijing, the Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe, Live at Emmets Place, Oslo Jazz Festival, Detroit Jazz Fest, as well as collaborated with The Phat Band, Glenn Miller Orchestra, Tex Benecke Orchestra, and recorded with Emmet Cohen, Russell Hall, Kyle Poole, Butch Miles, Ken Peplowski, Katie Thiroux, and more.
